Here are 15 wonderful Thanksgiving books to share with your kids this season. These are perfect for elementary aged kids. Some are just fun picture books and some are beautifully done non-fiction books. I’m sure you’ll find a few in here to add to your read aloud time this month. Enjoy!

An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving – Last year we read a picture book version of this story so this year we’re going to read the full version. I also found a short biography of Louisa May Alcott to read along with it.
Squanto’s Journey: The Story of the First Thanksgiving – This is the story of first Thanksgiving feast told from Squanto’s perspective.
1621: A New Look at Thanksgiving – This is a beautiful book from the National Geographic Society with reenactment pictures from Plymouth Plantation which is a living history museum in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Thanksgiving on Plymouth Plantation – This is the latest book in the Time Traveling Twins series. They travel back in time with their grandmother to the Plymouth Plantation and experience the harvest feast that became known as the first Thanksgiving.
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving – This seems like such a no-brainer which is exactly why I had to include it. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in looking for the newest books that we forget about some of our favorite childhood books.

Thanksgiving Is… – This is an easy picture book that starts with the harvest feasts throughout history leading up to the harvest feast of 1621 in Plymouth. It also shows what Thanksgiving is right now.
Magic Tree House’s Thanksgiving on Thursday and the companion Fact Tracker: Pilgrims – My girls love Magic Tree House so we can’t pass up Thanksgiving on Thursday this time of year.
Three Young Pilgrims – This is the story of three children who came over to America on the Mayflower with their parents.
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey! – This collection of books is just so much fun for little kids.
“Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving – This is just what it sounds like. It’s a spin off of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. I love when we can find new books that remind us of other favorites.
P is for Pilgrim: A Thanksgiving Alphabet – My kids are too old for the usual alphabet type books but this has a lot more to it. It is still a picture book but it goes into details about the history of Thanksgiving.
Thank You, Sarah: The Woman Who Saved Thanksgiving – This has been a favorite of ours for the last couple of years. You know a good book when the kids ask for it each year!
You Wouldn’t Want to Sail on the Mayflower! – I have to include the Thanksgiving book from one of my kids’ favorite book series. They head to this shelf every time we’re at the library.
Gobble Gobble Mad Libs – Who doesn’t just love Mad Libs?! My kids certainly do so they were excited to see a Thanksgiving themed Mad Libs.
