15 Fall Picture Books for Kids

Fall is such a beautiful time of year! We love to spend lots of time outside enjoying the cool weather and watching the trees’ amazing color show. Fall is also the time to slow down and cuddle up on the couch with our kids and a stack of books. I love adding these seasonal picture books to our monthly morning basket. Here are some beautiful and engaging fall picture books to share with your kids!

 

 

Fall Picture Books about Leaves

Leaf Man takes a journey through many landscapes as the wind blows him here and there. Where will he go next? After reading this, head outside and create your own leaf man and other leaf art projects!

Leaves – Follow a young bear’s first autumn as he tries to solve the problem of leaves falling from the trees before heading off for his hibernation nap.

 

Why do Leaves Change Color? We love these Let’s Read and Find Out books so we had to pick this one up too. Dive into the science of why leaves change colors in the fall.

 

Picture Books about Pumpkins

Too Many Pumpkins is one of our favorite fall picture books! My kids remind me to read this again and again every year. Rebecca hates pumpkins, but then something happens to change her mind.

 

The Roll-Away Pumpkin goes on an adventure through the town as Marla ties to catch it – with a little help. The author uses repeating sentence structure which is easy for early readers and younger kids to follow.

Pumpkin Jack is a great book for looking at what happens to pumpkins AFTER Halloween. This is something you’ll want to try with your kids!

 

From Seed to Pumpkin (another Let’s Read and Find Out book) – Learn how a tiny seed turns into a pumpkin! You’ll also find hands-on activities and a roasted pumpkin seed recipe in this book. This level 1 book is perfect for early elementary kids.

 

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything – We discovered this book a few years ago and it quickly became a favorite! I’ve read this so many times that my youngest memorized it and loves reciting it all season long.

These simple yet fun poems will set your kids on a path of wordplay games as they discover the new words the author created for his poems. Hello, Harvest Moon shows the magic of the harvest moon and the nocturnal creatures that come out. We also find a little girl and her cat who enjoy a moonlit night before the short days of winter arrive.

 

The Little Scarecrow Boy is an adorable story about a scarecrow boy who is eager to fill a big boy role. This book comes from Margaret Wise Brown who is the author of the much loved Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny books.

 

The Scarecrow’s Hat is a fantastic book for sequencing! A chicken is determined to solve a problem with the help of her barnyard friends. Your kids will have fun keeping track of who is trading around the farm.
