Paul Revere’s Ride is a wonderful picture book for introducing your young learners to the Revolutionary War and Paul Revere’s famous ride to warn of the coming British soldiers.
And Then What Happened, Paul Revere? is a witty book about the little known details of Paul Revere’s life and his famous ride to warn of the coming British army.
Benjamin Franklin’s Wise Words is a fantastic book for taking a closer look at the life of Benjamin Franklin. Thankfully, so much of his wisdom was written down so we can continue to learn from him even today. Each page starts with a quote from him followed by a short story from the book’s author relating it to Benjamin Franklin’s life or the history of that time period.
John, Paul, George and Ben is a silly picture book which exaggerates a few well known actions of these famous founding fathers. This is definitely get you and your kids laughing!
What is the Declaration of Independence? We love the Who Was series of books! Even though these books are a bit easy for my kids now, they still like to grab them from the library when they find one that matches what we’re learning about. Also check out What is the Constitution?
We the People: The Constitution of the United States is another favorite from Peter Spier. It features the preamble to the Constitution with many illustrations. In the back you’ll find the full constitution and the story of it’s creation.
So many books are written about our the founding fathers of our country which makes the Founding Mothers: Remembering the Ladies really stand out. This is a must-have if you’re reading about the Revolutionary War with your kids. You’ll recognize a few names such as Abigail Adams and Martha Washington, but there many more that play important roles behind the scenes. This book will introduce your kids to these heroic women.
Ladies of Liberty is a follow up book to Founding Mothers that continues to highlight 10 more influential women who helped shaped our country.
Who Was Betsy Ross? is another favorite book from the Who Was series. Learn about the woman who helped create our nation’s flag and served in other ways during the Revolutionary War. These books are perfect for kids ready to dive into their first chapter books.
The Star-Spangled Banner by Peter Spier is a wonderfully done picture book with the full poem paired with lots of large pictures. In the back you’ll find the song, a picture of the handwritten poem by Francis Scott Key, and the story of “The Star-Spangled Banner”. The inside covers highlight numerous flags and show how the United States’ flag changed as states were added.
The Night Before the Fourth of July is a delightful picture book story about a family preparing for Independence Day set to the rhythm of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
Kid Presidents is a fun book that shows that even our Presidents were once just regular kids doing regular kid stuff. This book has short stories about 16 presidents and a list of fun facts about all the presidents.
Red, White, and Boom! – This is a gem to find at the library or used book store. It appears to be unavailable on Amazon. This a very simple rhyming picture book is filled with color, sound, and action words describing Independence Day starting with a July 4th parade and ending with a fireworks show. This is perfect for your youngest learners.
