Hello! If you’re here for the Back to Homeschool Blessings Bundle, you can click through to the 50 States Cursive Handwriting Practice product page.
Handwriting practice for young kids can be incredibly boring when they’re asked to copy the same letter, small words, or simple sentences over and over and over. That may be needed for a time, but it’s important to move past that stage before you turn handwriting practice into a subject they dread. One of my favorite tips for teaching kids to write (either print or cursive) is to have them copy meaningful passages. This is far more interesting for them than writing boring simple sentences AND it provides additional learning opportunities that goes beyond letter formation.

50 States Cursive Handwriting Practice
When I was putting the final touches on An Adventure Through the 50 States, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to connect handwriting practice with learning about our 50 states. I had a lot of fun collecting all of the state mottos. These are fantastic discussion starters to use with our kids. As they go through the states, invite them to share their thoughts about mottos such as…
- We Dare Defend Our Rights – Alabama
- Liberty and Independence – Delaware
- State Sovereignty, National Union – Illinois
- To The Stars Through Difficulties – Kansas
- Life Free or Die – New Hampshire
- She flies with her own wings. – Oregon
What juicy conversations we can have with our kids with these!
These cursive handwriting practice pages use elementary sized lines with the dotted middle line. In this packet you’ll find one page for each state featuring…

- capital city
- nickname
- motto
