Last year was a crazy hectic year for me. It felt like I was being pulled in all sorts of directions by activities and groups that weren’t all that important to us. Luckily, I realized that I needed to identify my priorities and refocus my energy those key items. This year I’m all about priorities and balance. What a difference it has made! Now, it’s time to tackle the busy holiday season and see how to thrive in our homeschool during the holidays. This season can (and should!) look different than the rest of our school year.

Holiday season can quickly make a mess of our homeschool routine. It seems to start with Halloween and continue on through New Year’s Day! That’s an awfully long time to feel like we’re off track from our usual plans. How can we stay on task with so much else that comes with this long holiday season?
Our Homeschool Vision for the Holidays
When I created our homeschool vision, I asked myself what I want my kids to say about their homeschool experience when they’re adults. How do I want them to describe this experience to their adult friends and perhaps their own children?
This is also a fantastic question to keep in mind during this busy holiday season. Do we want our kids to remember us as frantic, stressed moms during the holiday season? Do we want them to think that homeschooling is a burden or distraction that can conflict with the joys of this season?
This is why it’s so important to slow down and enjoy the festivities of the holiday season with our kids. Homeschooling is important, but connection and positive memories are just as important. With a little bit of planning, we can accomplish homeschool tasks and enjoy all the extras of the season.
I’m excited to be guest posting for Heather at Life of a Homeschool Mom for her Homeschool Through the Holidays series! You read more about creating a holiday homeschool routine at the link below. Enjoy!
