It’s time to bring out Valentine’s Day books for our kids! I love snuggling up with my kids and a good book, and this month we get to read lots of books about snuggles while we’re at it! I add these books to our Morning Basket book list for February, and I’ll even come back to a few of them throughout the year.
Valentine’s Day Books for Kids
The Valentine Bears – We LOVE Jan Brett books! This one one is written by Eve Bunting and illustrated by Jan Brett. How can bears celebrate Valentine’s Day when they’re always hibernating during the winter? One year Mrs. Bear tries to surprise Mr. Bear on Valentine’s Day.
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose! – I’m sure you remember the song “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly”, but did you know that there are several fun books based off the song? My kids always look for one for each holiday!
The Very Fairy Princess: Valentine’s from the Heart and The Very Fairy Princess Follows Her Heart are such fun and cute books from Julie Andrews. Yes, that’s right, Mary Poppins. We love all of the Very Fairy Princess books!
Kisses, Cuddles, and Goodnight! is a great board book for the little learners in your home. They’ll love playing with the reusable stickers to match a cuddle buddy with each of the characters.
Cuddle Bear is ready to give hugs to all the animals big and small. This is a great book to cuddle up with and read with your younger kids.

Hugs and Kisses for the Grouchy Ladybug and Love from the Very Hungary Caterpillar are fun Valentine’s Day books for toddlers from Eric Carle.
Once Upon a Timely, Animally, and Americanly are playful adverb adventure books that use fairly tales, animals, and American monuments to describe all the ways we can love each other. These are great for young learners!
Love You Hoo – Big Owl and Little Owl cuddle up and remember all the special times they’re enjoyed together in this adorable book for preschool and early elementary kiddos.
Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink is a fun picture book about a prank that goes wrong when Gilbert has to figure out what to write on Valentines for kids who weren’t that nice to him.
Love Monster and the Last Chocolate is a cute book about sharing with friends. What will Love Monster do when he gets to the last chocolate?
Mad Libs: Valentine’s Day – Mad Libs are a staple in our Morning Basket even now that our kids are older. They’re great for younger kids who are learning about nouns, verbs, and adjectives, but even older kids love them because they’re just so much fun!
